Rites held for Myrtle Riste, 88

Funeral services for Myrtle Riste, 88, of Decorah, were held Saturday, May 26 at 10:30 a.m. at First Lutheran Church in Decorah.

Mrs. Riste died May 24 at the Aase Haugen Home.

Pastor Paul H. Christenson conducted the services. William Kuhlman was organist, accompanying congregational singing.

Steine's Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements, with burial in the Lutheran Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Lawrence DeGreve, Carlton Fagerlie, Harley Fagerlie, Robert A. Koepp, Jim Steine and Bernard Williams.

Myrtle Williams was born March 6, 1896 in Glenwood Township to the late Sigvart and Mathilda (Huseby) Williams. She was educated in rural schools of Glenwood Township and married Adolph Riste. He preceded here in death.

Survivors include two children, Myron Riste of Dubuque and Violet Ryan of Oelwein; a brother, George Williams of Decorah; two sisters, Nellie Fagerlie of Decorah and Alma Spilde of Decorah; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son Richard Riste, and eight brothers and sisters.

She was a member of First Lutheran Church.

George A. Williams

George A. Williams, 91, of Decorah, died Jan. 14, 1991, at the Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services are today (Thursday, Jan. 17) at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. James S. Dale officiating.

Visitation began Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah, and continues one hou before services at the church. There was an Oddfellows Lodge service Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Burial is at the Lutheran Cemetery, and the following are pallbearers: Carlton Fagerlie, Nels Folkedahl, Don McCormick, Darrell Olson, Sherman Oyen and Jim Steine. Honorary pallbearers are members of the I.O.O.F. Lodge No. 58.

Organist is Pastor Kristen Kvamme, accompanying Phyllis Willer as soloist. She will sing "Whispering Hope" and "Amazing Grace."

George Williams was born April 6, 1899, in Glenwood Township, Winneshiek County, the son of Sigvart and Mathilda (Huseby) Williams. He was educated in elementary school in rural Glenwood Township school. He married Devillo Sibert June 30, 1923, in Decorah. He lived in Decorah and was a painter and I.O.O.F. employee. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, and was past noble grand of the I.O.O.F.

He is survived by his wife Devillo; three children, Arrlowayne Diederich of Decorah, Donna Bjornstad of Yuma, Ariz., and Vincel P. Williams of Kansas City, Mo.; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parent, eight brothers (Paul, Albert, John, Martin, Leonard, Walter, Olaf and Alfred), and by three sisters (Nellie Fagerlie, Alma Spilde and Myrtle Riste).

Devillo Williams

Devillo Williams, 95, of Decorah, died January 2, 2001 at the Aase Haugen Home in Decorah.

Visitation begins Friday, April 13, at 10 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Decorah, where the family will greet friends. A memorial service will take place at the Methodist Church Friday at 11 a.m. with Rev. James Dale officiating.

Burial will be in the Lutheran Cemetery with Fjelstul Funeral Home of Decorah handling arrangements.

Devillo Williams was born April 13, 1905 in Bonair, Iowa to Ivison and Katherine (Murdock) Silbert [sic].

She graduated from Valders College in Decorah and married George Williams June 30, 1923 in Decorah. The couple had three children.

She worked as a sales clerk, and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Decorah, as well as the VFW Auxiliary.

Surviving Devillo Williams, are two children, Arrlowayne Diederich of Decorah and Vincel and Lorraine Williams of Kansas City, Mo.

Additional survivors include a son-in-law, Jim Bjornstad of Chandler, Ariz.; eight grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and nine great-great grandchildren.

Devillo Williams was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George Williams, Jan. 14, 1991; one daughter, Donna Bjornstad on August 21, 1999; one brother, Willie Sibert and two sisters, Lydia Johnson and Ada Sibert.

Memorials may be given to the Aase Haugen Home of Decorah or the First United Methodist Church of Decorah.
