Webjørn WEBJØRNSEN Waal (1780-1852)

According to a biography of Webjørn WEBJØRNSEN Waal in the Kråkstad bygdebok [Vol. 1, p. 329-330], at the age of 16, Webjørn became a schoolteacher [skoleholder] holding the position from 1797 to 1807. The entry under Karlsmyr in the bygdebok states that in 1807 the Karlsmyr farm was deeded to him for 1600 rkd. The Psalmbook and the parish records both record his marriage on 2 Dec 1808 to his first cousin, Dorthe ANDERSDTR (b. 22 Sep 1782, Alvim, Kråkstad). Dorthe's father, Anders SVENDSEN Alvim, and Webjørn's mother, Gunhild SVENDSDTR Sørum, were respectively the son and daughter of Svend SVENDSEN Sørum and his wife, Gunhild KJELDSDTR Hauger.

In 1811 the Brekke farm was ceded to Webjørn, and he, Dorthe and their two children, Anders and Gunhild, moved to Brekke on 22 Feb 1812. From 1814 to 1826 they added three more children to their family: Svend, Webjørn, and Johanne. He received a royal deed of conveyance to the farm in 1837 and from 1838-1841 was a member of Kråkstad's first township board. On 12 Jul 1840 Dorthe passed away. On 30 Apr 1849, the 68 year old Webjørn married a 21 year old woman named Inger Marie CHRISTIANSDTR Hobøl.

They had a son, Anton Sigvardt [not Anders Sigvard, as stated in the Kråkstad bygdebok], who was born on 5 Sep 1849 and baptized on 28 Oct. If my calculations are correct, Inger would have had to have been almost 5 months pregnant when they married. This has been somewhat a source of confusion since Webjørn's son, Webjørn, also named his son who was born on 21 Dec 1849 and baptized on 20 Jan 1850, Anton Sigvardt. Webjørn WEBJØRNSEN Brekke, as he was known then, died 28 Jul 1852 and was buried on 5 Aug.
